Call it the boomerang effect: Having grown up at Yorkfield Presbyterian Church and sent into the world, I have returned to the friendly confines of my home church after a few years of wandering around. (YPC - Yeah you know me)!
I first started on the left coast, graduating from the University of Southern California (USC) with a degree in audio engineering. Returning to Illinois, I set to work. During that time, I met my wife, Jennifer, and together we started a family (Jennifer is also a PC(USA) pastor – making our daughter a PK2). God called me to ministry (God’s timing is not always yours) and we travelled to the righthand coast this time, where I attended Princeton Seminary. That is where I received a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Youth Ministry (unfortunately, it was not a BOGO offer). After seminary, I served at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church for four years and then returned “home.” I have the amazing privilege to now serve as Associate Pastor for Mission and Outreach in the church where I grew up, danced with my wife during our wedding reception, celebrated our daughter's baptism, said a final goodbye to my grandmother and continue to plan for the future.
I get to do a lot of amazing things at YPC. My ministry with the Deacons offers compassion and care to the congregation. My ministry with the Mission Commission allows us to discover how God is calling us to use our hands and feet in the world. My ministry with the congregation gets me out into the neighborhood to talk with people (imagine that)! My ministry with the Trustees helps me understand how much work a building can be. One of things I was asked to do when I first arrived back at YPC was to be a liaison to the Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry as they entered a building campaign. The pantry now sits in the northeast corner of the parking lot serving hundreds upon hundreds of families each month.
This is an amazing time for the congregation of Yorkfield Presbyterian Church. As we move into the future together, it will be exciting to see what God has in store for us all!
