 Rev. Beth Wagner

Beth Wagner

I am excited to be starting my seventh transitional/interim position here at YPC.

My husband Jim and I raised our family in Arlington Heights, IL, so this truly feels like coming home. I have also done transitional work at First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, IL; First Presbyterian Church, Valparaiso, IN; 2nd Congregational/First Presbyterian Church of Rockford; First Presbyterian Church of Rockford; Hope Presbyterian Church in Springfield, IL and St. Luke Union Church of Bloomington, IL.

My cats Sir Lionel and Honey Bear and I travel the Midwest. The last five transitional positions have included not only a new church but a new apartment to base my church time out of, Yorkfield is my first manse. It makes life interesting. Free time for Sir Lionel, Honey Bear and me often includes hanging out with family included an adorable grandson and precious granddaughter or perhaps crafting (sewing, knitting and other fun creative things) or reading; everything from business books to mysteries to rhyming children's books.

My family and I became members of YPC in 1997 after searching for a strong Christian education program.  After volunteering as a parent for many of the children's programs, I found myself being called to the position of Director of Children's Ministries in 2002.

Serving as the Director of Children and Youth Ministries here at Yorkfield Presbyterian Church is truly a joy and a blessing!  I had previously been a public school teacher for ten years, so I have always enjoyed working with kids.  However, here, I am able to really be a part of their lives and their families.  I can see them grow on their faith journey and discover where God is leading them.

I am blessed to have a loving and supportive husband,John, and two amazing children, Josh and Abby.  They have all been active members at YPC too.

God has definitely shown me that my passion is working with children and youth. In my leisure, I enjoy going to movies, traveling, walking our dog, reading, and catching up on DVR'd shows.

One of my memories of growing up in Villa Park includes being inundated by the smell of chocolate emanating from the Ovaltine Factory on the way to school each day.  The building had an ornate flying “W” on the side of it.  I imagined this meant it was either secretly the Wonka factory or someday I would discover a long lost uncle of mine owned it (the Wrzeszcz chocolate factory). Neither of these were true and, as all postmodern stories go, it was turned into upscale loft apartments. L

Attending college on the left coast, I graduated from USC with a degree in audio engineering. After returning to Illinois, working for a while, meeting my wife, Jennifer, and starting a family (Jennifer is also a PC(USA) pastor – making our daughter a PK2), God called me to ministry (God’s timing is not always yours)!  We travelled to the right coast to attend Princeton Seminary, where I received a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Youth Ministry (unfortunately, it was not a BOGO offer). After seminary, I served at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church for four years and then returned “home.”  I have the amazing privilege to now serve as Associate Pastor for Mission and Outreach in the church where I grew up, danced with my wife during our wedding reception, celebrated our daughter Emma's baptism, said a final goodbye to my grandmother and continue to plan for the future.

I get to do a lot of amazing things at YPC. My ministry with the Deacons offers compassion and care to the congregation. My ministry with the Mission Commission allows us to discover how God is calling us to use our hands and feet in the world. My ministry with the Discipleship Commission gets me out into the neighborhood to talk with people (imagine that)! As liaison to the Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry, we are also at an exciting time as the new food pantry will be built by the end of the Summer 2015 (donations still being taken at www.eyfp.org)!

This is an amazing time for the congregation of Yorkfield Presbyterian Church. As we move into the future together, it will be exciting to see what God has in store for us all!

I am the church office manager at YPC. I also serve as Clerk of Session.

YPC has been my church my whole life, I was baptised and married here and raised both of my children here also. I have seen Sunday school from both sides, sitting at small tables as a child and teaching preschool through eighth grade as an adult.

I live in Elmhurst with my husband, Paul. Our daughter, Danielle, lives in Ft Collins, CO with her husband, Chris and our new grandson, Cairo. Our son, Max, is living in the St. Louis area. We all love watching ice hockey, especially the Chicago Blackhawks.

I have been part of YPC since I was born... almost 35 years!

I am a graduate of York High School and Elmhurst College.  I teach preschool at Concordia University Chicago in River Forest.  I have been the first babysitter for most of the children at YPC including several who are now college graduates!  Teaching and caring for children have been my life work.  I come from a family of teachers.  Both my parents are retired teachers and my brother is a college professor.

I am the Church organist/choir accompanist.

After graduating from Elmhurst College, I received a call from the college that a church member, Warner Brown, was looking for a piano accompanist for his choir. I accepted the position which also turned into playing organ for one of the church services in the fall of 1974. In the fall of 2012, I will begin my 39th year.
My husband, Gary, and I live in Naperville. We have 3 grown children: Megan, Krissy and Michael and 3 grandchildren: Alex, Jenna and Abigail. Besides working at YPC, I will be starting my 20th year teaching at a Christian Preschool in Naperville and also teach piano lessons in my home. In my free time I enjoy scrapbooking.
